D&D races

Human – The most common and widespread race.  Humans dominate the world due to their ambition and flexibility.  You can excel at whatever you choose to pursue.

Dwarf – Dwarves are tough and suspicious, slow to trust outsiders.  They value tradition and religion highly. They tend to be brave, determined and loyal.

Elf – Elves can live 700 years or longer. This gives them a broader perspective; they don’t worry about petty problems that will resolve themselves in a mere decade or two.  Elves love magic, music, art, and nature.  Their societies are often reclusive.

Halfling – Halflings are small, about 3 feet tall.  They are practical, kind and curious, and often live among other races rather than form kingdoms of their own.

Dragonborn – Scaly and reptilian in appearance, dragonborn can breathe fire or other energy at their enemies.  They are proud and self sufficient, and their first loyalty is to their clan.

Gnome – Small folk with enthusiasm for living.  Everything is exciting to a gnome, and if it isn’t…. the gnome will find a way to make it more exciting.  Some are pranksters, some are tinkerers, and most are curious, impulsive and less cautious than they should be.

Half-Elf – With a foot in two worlds, half-elves combine human curiosity and ambition with elven refinement and love of beauty.  They are often diplomats or wanderers, with the ability to get along with whomever they meet.

Half-Orc  – Half-orcs are strong and tough,  intimidating and quick to anger.  They tend to live either among orcs or in the slums and back alleys of human cities.

Tiefling – A tiefling’s bloodline contains some Infernal essence, and they have horns and a tail that resemble a devil’s.  Although tieflings are by nature no more inclined to evil than anyone else, they are distrusted and feared by most of society.  Living this way leaves a mark in some way.  Some embrace the stereotype and become criminals; others react strongly against it, and there are quite a few tiefling paladins.

Other races –  Different worlds (settings) of D&D will have different races.  Bearfolk, warforged, centaurs, kenku – each setting has creatures that make it unique and give it flavor, that you might take the role of.
